SERVICING VICTIMS OF VIOLENT CRIMES AND TRAUMATIC EVENTS SINCE 1982.
It is the mission of VARO to provide 24-hour immediate crisis intervention to all victims of violent crime and traumatic events without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status. Immediate crisis intervention services provided include, but are not limited to: emotional support, information and referral, clothing, food, emergency temporary shelter, transportation, and other services necessary to ensure the safety and well being of the clients. It is also our mission to elevate the stature of women and children on our island, those most often victimized by physical and sexual abuse. VARO provides annual Victim Advocate Intervention Training for victim advocate volunteers and other prevention/education and awareness presentations/training for the community. It is our hope that education and awareness will lessen the need for crisis intervention in future generations.
