30 YEARS OF SERVICE!
SERVING VICTIMS OF VIOLENT CRIMES AND TRAUMATIC EVENTS
VARO is a nonprofit volunteer organization that was established in 1982 by the Guam Task Force on Family Abuse and Sexual Assault. VARO provides free, confidential and voluntary services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault/abuse, and other violent or traumatic events. Family members are also entitled to VARO services, as well as individuals who were victimized long ago but are in emotional crisis now.
It is the mission of VARO to not only respond to all victims of violent crime and trauma, but also to elevate the stature of women and children on our island, those most often victimized by physical and sexual abuse. VARO provides annual Victim Advocate Intervention Training for victim advocate volunteers and other prevention/education and awareness presentations/training for the community. It is our hope that education and awareness will lessen the need for crisis intervention in future generations.
VARO Volunteers are dispatched by the VARO Crisis Services Supervisor or the Weekend On-Call Supervisor. Calls are received through the VARO Hotline or the Crisis Hotline.
If for any reason, you feel reluctant to report emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, remember: ALL calls to VARO are CONFIDENTIAL.
